The Early 20th Century and the Communication Revolution in Asia

The British Library has such a huge selection of 19th and early 20th century books in a whole huge range of Asian languages. This was an age of what I've called of of ages communications revolution because printing spread through South Asia which the Indian subcontinent Central Asia as well as West Asia the Middle East effectively apart from a few small Christian minorities but effectively didn't have printing until the 19th century. The steamships and train lines between these ports and these rail hubs in land that actually allow people to travel allowed different Asians to travel to witness experience other Asian societies. It also provided a readership back home let's say in each of these countries.
