The Beheading Game

The earliest version I know of is in a middle Irish manuscript of about 1100. It's very clear what's happening there. The beheading game is a future one in an old bar and shop yours. So you can see it has a folktale root. Then there's the narrative compulsion that if for example, so the green knight when he comes in he says you can tell I come in peace. And at that point someone has to save the day and the axe has to be the weapon. But the main problem with it is that it's a game.
