The Rule as a Model
The word rule comes from a loan word, actually, the Hebrew for the giant cane plant. It had been used for balances, straight edges and all kinds of measuring instruments. Rule as law is at least officially extinct but I think it has still a subterranean existence in our lives. Jesus Christ is the rule of our life, meaning someone to be emulated. And you have examples of models of behavior who set rules by saying, copy me.
