From the mid 90s there was a shift in this approach. A new wave of purpose built mosques started to emerge which were more formally designed and produced. The resulting buildings were no longer ad hoc or freestyle. For example, the Jamiya Mosque in Leicester draws its Islamic references more recognizably from 12th century Fatimid mosques of Cairo.
