The Pharisees and the Pharisaic Oral Law
Pharisees took scripture very seriously. They wanted to bring it into the lives of everyday jewish people. Jesus just didn't have that much in common with them. As a pharisee, paul was meticulous, a sincere jew who loved descriptions. He shared all the hopes of the jewish people about the coming messiah but he most certainly did not believe that the messiah was jesus of nazareth.
