What's the Impact of Unions in American Politics?

Union membership declined to an all time low last year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. But if you look at other data that encompasses more of the 20th century, it actually looks like unions reached a high in terms of membership mid century. Almost a third of American workers across, you know, public, private, whatever being members of unions.
