The Lafayette Theatre in Harlem, New York
The lafayette theatre would be really one of the most central performing art spaces here in harlem well into the twenties and into the thirties. This theatre, by the way, would become a church in the 19 fifties and would sadly be demolished in two thousand 13. It was replaced then by an apartment building called the lafayette. And if such a prominent place was already opened here in the 19 tens, i can imagine there are other kinds of music clubs hopping all around the neighborhood as well.
