Did the Hostage Takers Really Have a Political Program?

In an intense hostage situation you create this insular little world where you start to sympathize with your captors. But then afterwards, were any of them like, Oh, I don't know what came over me. Or did the sympathy last? It lasted. And they talk about the recent past in a way that suggests they still understand that. Did the hostage takers at that time have any kind of political program? Not as far as I know, and not that they mentioned.
