Say and tell can both be used when we're talking about either direct or reported speech. The only thing you have to do, is change the structure of the sentence so that it's grammatically accurate. For example, did she tell you what happened yesterday? So at the party, she said I want to leave. She told me she hates tea. You can use talk like this: "We talked all night about our favorite movies"
