Buddhism brought down the Confucianist system which had prevailed before. And yet Chinese reformists in this period, Chinese intellectuals, Chinese philosophers, such as the great Houshe, argued that Buddhism led to decline of Chinese philosophy and science. This critique of Buddhism is a very Asian thing, even among countries that themselves have been formally Buddhist,. Such as Seoul or indeed China. So, this is sort of complexity then between Chinese and Indian views of Buddhism and what that means for Indo-Chinese relations.
