Jefferson had criticisms of washington. He says his mind was great and powerful without being of the very first order. And as far as he saw, no judgment was ever sounder. We shouldn't dismiss that the legacy of washington is, in many ways, i think, superior to the legacy of newton bacon or a lock,. all of which have relatively mixed legacies, i would say.
