The Primary Nervous Exam

The primary assessment is to see if the patient has suffered a brain injury. If they have, then we're going to try and maintain adequate cerebral profusion pressure in the brain. We are also going to make sure that the patient's getting adequate oxygen delivery to the cerebral tissue,. and we're Going to try and reduce the metabolic demands on the brain. The second stage of care involves doing an internal nervous exam which can be very difficult for patients who aren't orientated properly. This includes looking at pupil symmetry as well as whether or not there've been any lacerations to the head. And this all takes place before you go into hospital where it becomes much more complicated.
