The first social media platform was called six degrees in 1997. It connected users with friends kind of like what my space did after that or Facebook did after my space. The premise of social media is engaging audiences and connecting people online whilst accumulating profits through ad revenue, capitalism and psychology to create the greatest profits. Many people have become so engrossed by this virtual world that they suffer from an addiction to these platforms.
