Aboriginal Men in the Central Desert Region - The Children of the Intervention
Ben, you recently went to a closed door meeting in Alice Springs that was organised by original people in the Central Desert Region. One of the things that was spoken about was, quote, our kids. So tell me about those kids. A lot of them were born at the time of the intervention when the Racial Discrimination Act was suspended. And they've grown up in a point of time where their parents have been shamed out of parenting them. The response from all prisons, more police, or sending the army is certainly only going to amplify what's happening on the ground rather than act as a bomb or an antidote for what the community needs.
