The terrain forces you into a war of maneuver because it's so hard to dig in. And get brociously cold in winter at night. It's very, very cold at night and night and night falls like that as well. One minute is daylight. The next minute isn't. This is why 8th Army and certainly by the end of the year doing night attacks because there's no cover.
