At one point, Putin's ratings were 80%. In fact, after he annexed Crimea in 2014, it hasn't been that high of late. If Putin is no longer popular, then his position is no longer unassailable. His power and influence resides on his popularity among the Russian people. And so the more the war goes on, the more people are killed... The more this kind of sense is that people are opposed to this war,. At least in the ordinary public, not just among the elites. So that actually is very important about how popular he is, not just how popular he appears. Thank you for reading our four freedoms series.
