There is serological testing for HSV. It's poo-pooed upon by a lot of ID docs because they want to know the HSV or not. There are different types of type specific HSV-serological assays based on the glycoproteins itself. So there's one specifically for HSV-1 and HSV-2. And so you really have to have a confirmatory test through a Western blot.
