Is Urinalysis a Good Tool for Acute Kidney Disease?
A 38-year-old woman goes to the emergency department with a headache and an AKI. She denied any history of hypertension or kidney disease, but she did have a history of headaches and a fever that initially led her to go to her primary care clinic in the first place about a month ago. Her UA in the ED is notable for a protein of 136 RBCs and 22 white blood cells. The urinalysis findings weren't there previously. And all of this is new.
