The American Society of anesthesiologists actually give us guidelines, which I love because I don't have to think about it. So low risk are the patients that most of us take care of. Gastroparesis pregnancy, lower esophageal sphincter incompetence and gastric or bowel obstruction is a high-risk situation. We should really be reconsidering our patients that actually fall into a low risk category who we could be giving them clears up to two hours before their procedure.
