The Power of Selection Bias in Education
Scott: Harvey Mudd admits women at 2.5 times the rate of men, so yeah, it's selection bias. He says MIT accepts women at twice the rate ofMen, but last fall less than 40% of their undergraduate computer science students wear women. Scott replies that we need to learn much more about why women have systemically been less likely to pursue computer science in engineering than other STEM professions. But when you see US computer science majors dropping from 37% women in the mid-1980s to below 20% women in 2010, you can't claim gender differences in interests are biological.
