Blood Libel - The Crucifixion of a Child
In 1150, a priest named Thomas of Monmouth arrived in Norwich and became obsessed with the story of William's murder. He took it upon himself to act as a kind of amateur detective, interviewing witnesses who claim to have witnessed the boy's crisly fate. The local Jewish community had to take refuge in the Lord's castle for fear of their neighbors' reprisals. Historians speculate that the event marked the beginning of a far-reaching and long-lasting conspiracy known as blood libel.
