Octavian's Proconsular Authority in Rome

The senate granted octavian ten years proconsular authority over the provinces of spain, gaul, cilicia, syria and egypt. Octavian guaranteed that three quarters of rome's military was under his personal command. The last little bit to come out of the constitutional settlement of 27 b c was the small matter of what to call octavian in this new order. Senate finally settled on a new name, the name by which most people know octavian to day - augustus or revered one.
