The History of Venture Capital in the 1980s
The 80s was a real go-go period for finance as a whole, Wall Street and so on. But in the venture world, the timing of the cycles was slightly different. There was this huge bull market from around 1977 to 1983 when enormous amounts of capital flowed in. And then it picked up again in the kind of 1990-ish period with the advent of the internet. The big watershed moment equivalent to 1972, which took place in the 1980s, was 1983, the founding of Excel capital.
