What Socrates Means by Reflection

Socrates is not committed at all to that. He's quite able to say that the examined life can be the central explanation of what makes this a good life, without its being all there is to the good life. So you can have friends and love and even all sorts of other more frivolous things, and it' still be the examined life. This goes down into the tradition as the question of whether the wise man, or the virtuous man, as he is now going to be, is happy on the rack.
