The Codex Atlanticus - The Most Important of Leonardo's Notes

The Codex Atlanticus is the largest single collection of Leonardo's notes. The topics covered in this Codex range from sketches for paintings to studies of mechanics, inventions and hydraulics. It has a strange and controversial history stretching back to the first time it was put together by sculptor Pompeo Leoni. In 1796 Napoleon conquered Milan and he ordered all great artworks to be confiscated and brought to France. The Codex Atlanticus was among them and it was brought to its new home at the Louvre.
