I think the question itself is an indication that we are good. We actually sort of, I think we have universal agreement on what it means to be good. It is maximization of freedom and treating people with respect. Where we break down is like where you just look at fierce disagreements over whether or not we are doing that in our society. The United States isn't the apogee of human awfulness slavery is older than writing. There were even more slaves in other parts of the world. That's the truth. But the American project has always been defined by these amazing ideals and this optimistic vision about our possibilities. You don't need to tear down the structure in order to make progress
