The Supreme Court struck down the Republican-drawn congressional map in Alabama. It was a map that civil rights advocates had argued discriminated against the state's black residents. Chief Justice John Roberts who wrote the majority opinion along with Justice Brett Kavanaugh breaking with their conservative colleagues to join that majority opinion. Politically and legally, it opens the door for challenges to congressional maps and other Republican led states like Louisiana and Georgia.
