If one child is estranged from the other, parents can't really have their non-estrange child advocate for them. A sibling may say that if you're acting like our parents advocate, I will cut you off. You don't want your friendship to be overly allied one against the other. We can be sympathetic, but if you put yourself in a position of advocacy, that can cause the person who's being advocated against to feel more misunderstood or ganged up on that kind of thing.
