Is Caffeine a Sleep Aid?

Caffeine can decrease the amount of deep sleep that you have by somewhere between 12 to 15%. It depends on the dose of caffeine. Alcohol is in a class of drugs that we call the sedatives and sedation is not sleep. The second is that alcohol will fragment your sleep like caffeine, but through a different chemical mechanism.
