The Tobacco Tin Survival Era
As a young soldier, I did my first ever combat survival course in 1984. And that was when we were firmly entrenched in the what I call the tobacco tin survival era. We were encouraged to make this survival kit that we chucked into our webbing with all of the other stuff that you needed to live in the field. So when it's for real and you hear a cough in the darkness, you don't open up with the entire section. It could be the bad guy or it could be the sheep, depending on how many cigarettes they've had before they're trying to sneak up on you.
