Stoicism resembles Christianity, but it doesn't require faith-based belief in God. It's a philosophy rather than a religion. Some people are drawn to it because they want a more down-to-earth alternative to academic philosophy. And so many people say that they feel like they need, in the age of the internet, they're being bombarded with misinformation. The ancient force we evolved and part as a defense against is sophistry - aided by modern technology.
Elliot Chung, a student at Phillips Academy Andover, interviewed me recently for his new Philosophy for the Modern Mind podcast, and we decided to share our conversation on this podcast as well. We talk in particular about how Stoicism could be of practical benefit to young people, and the challenges they face today.
