The Role of Cortical Regulation in Cognitive Therapy

CBT can be a tremendously powerful therapeutic process if somebody has a pretty well organized cortex. If that cortex isn't disregulating input from lower parts of the brain, it will make it less effective and efficient. The key for our therapeutic approach is to adhere to that sequence of engagement. Regulate and then relate to connect and then reason. And because the cognitive stuff never sticks, it's like throwing stuff at the wall. It doesn't stick unless there's some sort of emotional vehicle.
