The National Palace Museum
In 1911 China becomes a republic, and the royals become just figureheads. Life at the court is cutthroat. The National Palace Museum was created in 1925 to catalog more than a million objects. In 1931, Japanese troops leave for the conquest of Manjuria. As Japan invades China's northwest, museum staff get really nervous.
