Once Radiohead pulled away from traditional guitar-based rock at the turn of the millennium, a new generation of UK bands rushed in to fill the void. In April 2002, Billboard's chartbeat columnist noted a sad passage on the Hot 100. One week after a former top 10 hit by R&B and UK garage singer Craig David dropped off the list. The American pop chart was devoid of British acts for the first time since before the Beatles had kicked off the British invasion in 1964.
