The julian calendar assumed that a year consisted of 365 point two five days. The new gregorian calendar realigned the date of the equinox by dropping ten days from 15 82. This could lead to a situation involving nearby countries where someone could potentially have a marriage certificate that was dated up to 12 days after their death.
