The Importance of Liberty
As long as America was dominantly a Christian nation, this idea or ideal of modern freedom was more or less constrained in practice even if in theory it was unbounded. And so it's become the case in more recent years that this theory of freedom has become realized in much of our modern world. Some of the deepest debates today I think really can be reduced to a kind of debate over what's the proper nature and understanding of liberty.
