The Hubble Constant and Hubble Wars

The rate of expansion of the universe is expressed as a number known as the Hubble constant or H. Given H and factoring in the breaking effect of gravity you can work out the age of the universe. The original value put the universe at only about 2 billion years old, less than half theage of the Earth. But recently a new discrepancy has surfaced implying an age for the universe of well over 14 billion years. Does this suggest something serious to us without understanding of basic cosmology?
