The Hidden Spring of Consciousness
The title of my book refers to the upper brainstem, which is from whence all consciousness springs. So that's likely simplifying it, because the reticular activating system is not the totality of the arousal structures of the brain. There are a few other structures like, for example, the basal forebrain nuclei and so on who perform exactly the same sort of function. But they're all deep, sub-cortical structures that have the function of arousing and modulating the rest of the Brain.
