Hitchcock pulled Frederick Stafford out of obscurity because he didn't want to have to deal with a Paul Newman type on set. He'd seen him in the french spy spoof OSS sunset and thought that he would be the perfect guy for his bondage style hero, someone who would appear in a Bond style film See, this is the director who says actors are cattle This is the guy who doesn't I mean, he's almost like getting into Roberta Bresin territory with getting this guy Who, no charisma Doesn't like, I don't like his face Well, this Yeah, he looks off-brand Like he should be starring in an Italian spy film Like a Euro spy film Yeah
