The History of the Heredi Judaism
The main divide within the heredi Judaism is Hasidic versus non-Hasidic. So if you go back to traditional Ashkenazi society in Eastern Europe before the Holocaust, this is a society that's been evolving for like a thousand years. In the late 17th century, maybe 18th century, there was kind of a spiritual revival. You can think of it also as maybe rebellion against the scholarly classes of the rabbis. They emphasized joy, ecstasy, dance, song, and Hasidim descend from them.
