Machuperin 1853 and Japan in War War 2

In 1853, the Tokugawa government that had been in power for over 2 centuries lost its position. This event created a sense of wounded national pride and a determination to never suffer humiliation like this again. The result was an incredibly fast process of industrialization. Japan went from being a feudal society to being an industrial power at incredible speed. A desire for type modernization was a rejection of traditional culture which was seen as backward.
