When your accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression. And this idea of sharing power and wealth with others was something people were going to fight against. They liked it better the way it was when they picked the politicians and the police chiefs and the judges. The republican party represents this group now, and they've decided that in order to keep the right people on top, they're willing to take our democratic institutions down.
