The History of the Tei Wung-Gun
C Cummings: Japan was growing impatient with the stubborn Korean kingdom across the strait. He says Korea's leader at this time, known as the Tei Wung-Gun, had a simple foreign policy. The first of a series of unequal treaties favoring Japan was signed in 1876. After this treaty by gunpoint with Japan, there was a treaty with the United States in 1882. What remained of Korea's sovereignty was slipping fast.
