The Importance of Isolator Bearings in a Bridge
The San Francisco Bay Area Bridge is undergoing a seismic retrofit. The project began in 1997 and it's still not finished, but the bridge has secured $400 million federal grant as part of Joe Biden's bigger $1.2 trillion by-part infrastructure law thing. There are these clever contraptions that are basically separating the bridge from the land on which it sits so that they can absorb energy in the event of an earthquake.
