I was born in 1957, and England of the early 60s is not the England today. I didn't have other families to compare with. My mum was lighter than me. But dad, in East Africa,. I mean, when we went out on the ship to East Africa, I think I was five. I walked around the ship holding his hand singing, I want to be daddy's girl. And so I went, I'm proper racist abuse. Oh, yes. That was so awful. You're joking. Just smack me. Naughty golly, naughty gollies," she says.
