In some ways, he was very prescient, if you read what he writes. He didn't reckon importantly with what would happen in countries that unlike the Britain of his day were not at the cutting edge of prosperity. And so the kinds of challenges that are posed, for example, for Africa in this era, were largely outside of his thinking.
