Erzabeth Batori was born on the 7th of August 1560 to Jörg and Anna Batori in Nir Batori, northeastern Hungary. Her parents were Hungarian aristocrats from two different branches of the Batori family. We know little about Erzabeth's upbringing, although tens of preserved letters from adulthood indicate that she was literate and spoke Hungarian, Slovak, Greek, Latin and German.
