In new spain, enslaved africans did make it to the mines but their numbers were dwarfed by indigenous amer indians and mestizo wage workers. Owners had developed a pretty good system of debt peonage as their version of forced labor. The future recognition of afro mexicans who were a part of the casta system was then, and is still to day, a very contestable and controversial issue. And therewere all these like famous posters that would be commissioned to show each potential combination of white, indigenous and black.
