The Myth of the Deny
The French expression captures something about the increasing lack of use value that Lacan wants to suggest with the mustard pot. This much delay would be like going to somebody's house for lunch. The mustard is late and in becoming late its tardiness renders its uselessness. Because it's under this appearance, throughout the ages that we find in digs, namely by searching in tombs, something that will bear witness to us about the state of a civilization.
