The Confederacy never found something like that. Their society fell apart and they had nothing to replace it with. By the end of the war, the number of Confederate soldiers who had gone AWOL, made it impossible for them to continue to fight. And this idea that somehow the Confederacy was united is completely a product of later years. In fact, it was driven by disagreement, by people ceasing to fight, by people refusing to pay their taxes. Jefferson Davis has to declare martial law across the whole place. Lincoln managed to take a moment of incredible insecurity and to redefine it. It's redefine the country. That's the same thing that Franklin Delano Roosevelt does in the 1930s
